Prison of the Dead
Directed by David DeCocteau
Released: 2000
Starring: Patrick Flood, Jeff Peterson, Samuel Page, Kim Ryan

Somewhere in New England, a carload of sexy people (who happen to be thrill-seekers of the paranormal) is going to a funeral for one of their members at a secluded prison/church/funeral home thingy. Once they arrive, the leader of the group, Kristof (played by Patrick Flood), reveals that he has a proposition for them: They must find a mythical key that will open a door, which will release the evil. And Kristof's dad, will give them a million dollars. After a quick session with a Ouija Board, the undead executioners of the prison rise up and start killing the sexy people.

Why is it that I love other films directed by David DeCocteau? For instance, I consider Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama a classic. Unfortunately, watching Prison of the Dead is a tedious experience with almost no entertainment value. The plot is too complicated and the characters (played by a disinterested cast) are developed well beyond necessity. An unoriginal storyline is't helped by the lifeless execution. It takes an hour before anything happens and when the wooden undead creatures start hacking away at the irritating cast, the entire plot just degenerates into a complete mess.

There isn't even enough gore to keep even the most desperate gorehound interested. Look, I took a bullet for you folks on this one. Please skip Prison of the Dead or my death will have been in vain. Hopefully, David DeCocteau will go back to making movies that are fun regardless of their faults.
